Tourtiere (Meat pie)

A Christmas favorite

Product used: El-Ma-Mia Tourtiere mix

½ lbs lean ground pork
½ lbs lean ground beef
1/3 cup diced onions
½ cup boiling water
1 tbsp El-Ma-Mia meat pie spices (or to taste)
½ cup mashed potatoes (optional) or1 heaping tbsp of white flour (optional)

Preparation

In a heavy pot, place minced pork and beef, add onions and hot water and mix well.
Bring to a boil and add El-Ma-Mia meat pie spices. ( if you're not using the mashpotatoes, use 1 heaping tbsp of flour to the mixture to thicken)Simmer for 25 minutes, stirring frequently.
If you use the mash potatoes, add them to the hot mixture and remove from heat.
Let cool for 30 minutes before putting the mixture into your pie shells.
Pierce holesinto top shell to let steam out while cooking in the oven.
Bake in preheated oven at 400* for 15 minutes then bring down oven heat to 375* and let cook until golden brown.
